Shirley Sydney passed away peacefully at home at the age of 81 on July 20, 2020.
To say that Shirley’s passing is a great loss would be an understatement. Shirley’s love of life was truly amazing. Her will to live and to make every second count was almost unworldly. Shirley lived a life of many adventures full of happiness but also persevered positively through obstacles that many couldn’t endure.
Shirley was raised by her aunt, Mildred Ray and spent her life being loved by her cousins, Brian, Sylvia and Brian Jr., and her RTR family. Shirley is also survived by her “husband” Benny who was the love of her life.
Shirley put others first and always made sure that the people around her knew that they were cared about. Shirley was nurturing by nature. She was very proud that she was a mother and spoke about it often even though life had different plans for her. Shirley was strong.
Shirley loved being part of the Special Olympics, Aktion Club, going on vacation (to “find good looking men”), arcade games, bingo, music and singing, going out to eat, attending church, parties, dances and proms, animals, talking on the phone, carnivals and getting dressed up with her amazing collection of makeup and jewelry. Shirley truly was a firecracker.
It’s unknown if Shirley knew exactly how much impact she had on those around her, the love she shared and that she was truly an inspiration on how to make every second count. The world is a better place because of her. She will truly be missed.
