Roger John Leonard, Jr. of Hingham passed away on June 16, 2024 at the age of 81 after a short illness. Roger is survived by his wife Jacilyn (Cummiskey) Leonard, his sister Maureen Mullare, his brother Stephen Leonard, his niece Amy Van Duyn, her husband David and their daughters Grace and Abigail. Roger was predeceased by his parents Roger and Claire Leonard, and by his nephew Paul T. Mullare.
Roger grew up in Braintree and enjoyed a wonderful childhood with his loving family, and many loving relatives and friends. Roger graduated from Archbishop Wiliams High School, Northeastern University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology where he earned a master’s degree in chemical engineering and an MBA.
Roger held significant positions in the energy and consulting industries and worked in several locations throughout the country, including New York City where he met Jacilyn (Jackie). They married in 1979 and had 45 years of a very happy and loving marriage. Together they moved to Connecticut, Delaware and Texas as Roger’s career progressed. After Roger’s retirement, they moved back to Massachusetts to be closer to Roger’s family and settled in Pine Hills in Plymouth. In later years, he and Jackie moved to Linden Ponds in Hingham.
Roger enjoyed traveling to many interesting destinations for business and pleasure including many U.S. National Parks, Alaska, many European countries, Russia and Turkey. As a young man, he took a two-month car trip with his friends across the entire United States and back to Braintree. Roger’s other interests included reading, taking daily walks with Jackie, and spending time with family. As a young man he enjoyed basketball, skiing, running and adventures with his friends.
Roger was a gentle, intelligent, caring person who enjoyed being with family and old friends and new friends. Roger was known for his exceptional patience and selfless ability to help others. Growing up, he was a selfless son and older brother who was always willing to share his time and knowledge. Roger’s family and friends were privileged to know him. He was much loved and will be sorely missed.
