Richard Child Obituary

Richard “Skip” Child, 80 of Holbrook passed away unexpectedly at home on Thursday February 10, 2022.

Predeceased by his parents Linton William Child and Pearl (Madison) Child.

Loving husband and married for 51 years to his wife Julie Child (Wheeler). Amazing father to his two children Brian G Child and Kristen of Marshfield and Audra A (Child) Kelliher-Koopman and David Koopman of Shrewsbury.

Skip was a deeply devotional Grandpa to Grace, Madison, Thomas and Patrick. They were truly his pride and joy and loved sharing stories, joking and teaching them anything they wanted to learn.

He is also survived by one “brother”-in-law Christopher Wheeler and wife Susan of Falmouth along with their four children, Emily, Kelsey, David and Daniel. He loved spending time with his cousin Anne Lillie Hahn, husband Phillip and their three children.

Skip was born on March 5, 1941 in Weymouth, MA and grew up in Hingham. He graduated from Quincy Trade High School in 1961 and went on to HVAC then became a master mechanic. He worked for Norwood Motor Parts for many years followed by a long-dedicated career and retirement from Mass Water Resources where he was the Maintenance Supervisor.

Skip loved riding his motorcycle and traveling all over New England and Nova Scotia with Julie on the motorcycle. He loved camping with Julie and friends. In Skip’s younger years he really enjoyed hunting with his brother-in-law Chris and Father-in-law Dick Wheeler. Skip enjoyed building and remodeling their home of 51 years in Holbrook and took great pride in each new project he took on. He was a master craftsman and could build a masterpiece from nothing but an idea in his head. Skip loved spending time on Ashumet Pond making many years of memories with family and friends. He was looking forward to a new adventure of building his dream home on the pond.  He always loved opening fishing weekends we the boys and was looking forward to fishing on Ashumet Pond again with his family.
