Nancy Pereto, 84, of Weymouth, MA, died on April 12, 2025, after a short illness.
Born in Bridgeport, CT to Dorothea (Keiser) and George Olah, Nancy attended Jonathan Law High School before going to work at Travelers Insurance, where she met Frank Pereto. After the two married, they lived in Manchester, CT and Walpole, NH before moving with their children to Hingham, MA in 1978. An avid collector of antiques, Nancy sold goods at church white elephants and the annual WGBH auction. She prided herself on always respecting the “no early birds” rule in garage sale listings and became known for her honest dealings.
In the mid-1980s, Nancy opened Cohasset Antiques on Route 3A with Richard Ogden. The basement shop served many in search of a special gift or piece of jewelry and was occasionally rowdy with friends. After several years solo in a new location in Cohasset Village, Nancy closed the shop and held a booth at numerous antiques shows from Cape Cod to Maine. She also made “house calls” to help clients assess estates.
Nancy loved live Irish music and was a loyal audience at various Irish sessions over the years, including at Bad Abbotts, the Snug, the Tinker’s Son, and the Cottage. At these locations she leaves behind a number of friends and a handful of enemies.
Nancy was preceded in death by her mother, Dorothea; her father, George; her sister, Betsy; and her brother, William. She is survived by her son, Christopher Pereto; daughter, Alison Pereto; and quasi-son-in-law, Lee Kilpatrick, as well as a variety of cousins, nephews, nieces, and friends.
All are invited to a celebration of life at 11am on Saturday, August 16, at the Hingham Congregational Church, 378 Main Street, Hingham, MA. Nancy’s ashes will be interred with her parents, sister, and beloved grandmother at the King’s Highway Cemetery, Milford, CT. In lieu of flowers, please find a cherished item from your family’s past and tell someone its story.
