Maureen (Cunningham) Foresta, 82, of Rockland, passed away peacefully on November 17, 2025, surrounded by her family.
Born on July 30, 1943, in Rockland, MA, Maureen was the daughter of the late Maurice and Dorothy Cunningham. She was proud to be the first in her family to graduate from college. Throughout her career, she worked as a paralegal at a local law practice and later as an executive assistant at E.T. Wright and WearGuard.
Maureen raised her two daughters on her own and, in her later years, found tremendous joy and purpose in being a grandmother. Her grandchildren were truly the center of her world, and she cherished every moment she spent with them.
She was a woman of faith, a dedicated New England sports fan—especially of her beloved Boston Red Sox—and a lifelong animal lover who adored her cats and her granddog, Stanley. She was an avid reader and a true foodie. She loved watching cooking shows, even though she famously disliked cooking herself.
Maureen is survived by her daughters, Michelle Scheufele and Mary Beth Foresta, and by her grandchildren, Rebecca Scheufele and Benjamin Scheufele, who brought immeasurable joy to her life.
She was predeceased by her sisters, Nancy Stephenson, Beverly Joyce, and Jeanne Ellis, as well as by her parents, Maurice and Dorothy Cunningham.
She will be deeply missed by all who loved her.
Visiting hours will be held at Downing Cottage Funeral Chapel, 21 Pond St., Hingham, MA 02043, on November 29, 2025, from 3:00 to 6:00 pm. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Maureen’s name to the Alzheimer’s Association at alz.org.
