Mary Louise (“Mary Lou”) Fitzsimmons, of Hingham, passed away on January 27, 2021, at the age of 96.
Mary Lou was born in Boston and spent most of her childhood years in Winchester, Massachusetts. She graduated from Mount Holyoke College with a bachelor’s degree in economics and sociology, and subsequently worked in Boston for several years with an investment firm.
After marrying her husband, she traveled extensively as her husband’s career as a Navy chaplain took them to New York City, Naples, Italy, Washington, DC, San Diego, Chicago, and Jacksonville, Florida. Mary Lou especially enjoyed her three years in Italy, and the chance to tour throughout Europe and the Middle East. After her husband’s retirement, Mary Lou worked as a bookkeeper and tax preparer.
Mary Lou is preceded in death by her parents, John E. Allen and Louise B. (Houston) Allen, formerly of Winchester, by her late husband, the Reverend Donald B. Fitzsimmons, and by her brother, John E. Allen, Jr., formerly of West Hartford, Connecticut. She is survived by her son, Bruce Fitzsimmons, and his wife, Alyson, of Arlington, her three grandchildren, Kyle Fitzsimmons, of Montreal, Canada, Emily Fitzsimmons, and Hunter Fitzsimmons, both of Arlington, and by her sister-in-law, Sally (Hutchinson) Allen, of Bloomfield, Connecticut.
Mary Lou was greatly loved by her family and her friends, and she will be missed by all who knew her.
