Marion Teague Obituary

Sunrise March 30, 1923- Sunset May 24, 2024

Marion Lindsey Teague, affectionately known as "YELLOW ROSE," passed away at the age of 101 in Hingham, MA. She was the daughter of the late Herbert and Mable Lindsey and was married to the late Robert V. Teague. Marion attended Hingham Public Schools and graduated from Hingham High School in the class of 1940. She later received her Associate's Degree and trained as a milliner and seamstress, using her skills to create her granddaughter's wedding veil. She met Robert Teague, a US Army soldier, and they married after just two weeks, sharing an incredible love story for over 60 years.

Marion was a well-known beautician who owned two salons: Marion’s Beauty Nook in Hingham and Chic Cherie in both Portland, Maine, and Martha's Vineyard. She was also the second woman of color to become a licensed insurance agent in Tennessee. Marion and Robert owned a summer home in Paris, TN, where they lived briefly while Robert taught at Central High School. Marion's entrepreneurial spirit shone through in her side ventures, such as selling Dutch Maid and hosting fashion shows.

She was always stylish, with the latest hairdos, painted nails, and her favorite fuchsia lipstick. A lifelong member of the First Baptist Church of Hingham, Marion was a devoted servant of the Lord. She served as a Bible Study Teacher, choir member, and Deaconess. Her Pastors, Gary Ludwig and Geoff Hicks, ensured she remained connected to the church even when she could no longer attend, visiting her weekly until the end. Marion was also a Girls Scout leader in Tennessee, Secretary of Mount Zion Baptist Church in Paris, TN, President of the Toastmistress public speaking organization, and a founding member of the South Shore Citizen Club. In 2021, she was honored by the Hingham Historical Society as a Hingham History Maker for her efforts in preserving the history of her high school class, Tuttleville, and the Native American history of her family.

She was the oldest living descendant of Tuttleville and the family historian of the Chappaquiddic Tribe. Marion is survived by her children, Roger Morris and Joyce Teague Barber, and her grandchildren: Khalid Rashada, Shiba Rashada, Aisha Rashada, Dakarai Rashada, Veronica Barber Hodges, Jade Altmann, and Anthony Morris. She is also survived by her great-grandchildren: Shai Rashada Parasram, Rala Whiteherst Rashada, Aaliyah Hodges, and Deja Altmann, as well as many nieces, nephews, her church family at First Baptist Church Hingham, and numerous friends. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Anita Mills, Pauline Gentry, and Estelle Green.

Marion loved to travel and cruise with Robert and friends. Her family and tribe were of utmost importance to her, and her last wish was for her family to stay united and learn their history. The family expresses their gratitude to Beacon Hospice for their care, and to the family and friends who celebrated Marion's birthdays and visited her. The First Baptist Church Pastors and family are also thanked for their support. In her memory, Marion requested that we never forget her by wearing yellow and sharing a yellow rose with someone you love. She was an amazing woman who created a lasting legacy.
