Marie Scioscia Obituary

Marie E. Scioscia (Cooke), 95, passed peacefully surrounded by her family on April 21st, 2024. Her love and warmth for all carried into her passions for family, animals, and the beauty of life.

Born in New York, NY, on June 27th, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Maurice and Eleanor (Dorr) Cooke. She graduated from Bryant High School in 1949. After high school, Marie went to work as a bookkeeper in New York. She often shared fond memories of her time working at SB Thomas. She worked as a bookkeeper until she and her husband moved to Virginia where they started their family.  In later years Marie returned to working when accepted a position at Blue Cross Blue Shield where she eventually retired. While in retirement, she also worked seasonally for H&R Block.

Marie was the beloved wife of the late Michael "Mike" Scioscia, with whom she shared 68 years of marriage. Prior to settling in Hingham, they lived in Virginia and Ohio. Mike and Marie’s love story was an inspiration to those around them. Their family will remember most their love of music and dancing together and everlasting devotion.

In Hingham, Marie was a member of St Paul’s Parish and an active member of the community. Many years were dedicated to volunteering around her community, caring for everyone from the youth to the elderly. Teaching CCD classes, Camp Fire councilor, a children's daycare aid, and assisting with events for members of MCB/Vision Impaired Hingham group were just a few examples of where she made a difference. Marie’s other passions included birdwatching, reading, crafts, card games, and spending time with friends and family. Marie made many friendships through these passions and her life, her most recent being the bond she had with her caring friend, Marilyn.

As a devoted family woman, she was happiest when her family was around the table for Sunday dinners and holidays. Around this table, Marie led card games, told stories, and mediated impassioned debates, creating countless fond memories in the process.

Marie is survived by her 3 devoted daughters; Marie and her husband Alex DiMare, Maureen Scioscia, and Michelle and husband Giovanni Ciambriello, and her grandchildren; Michael and wife Heather Finni, Giovanni and wife Emily Ciambriello, Rachel and husband Ryan Cristoforo, and Joseph Ciambriello, and great-grandchildren; Kayla, Jordan, Jaxon and Katelyn Finni. She is also survived by her beloved sister-in-law, Ann Cooke, and her nieces and nephew; Donna, Robin, and Craig Cooke, and many dear friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and brother, Robert Cooke.

Visiting hours will be held at the Downing Cottage Funeral Chapel 21 Pond St Hingham on Friday April 26, 2024 from 9-11am, followed by a funeral service at 11:30am. Burial will be private.
