Lee Mount Obituary

Lee F. Mount of Hingham passed away Saturday, March 20, 2021 at the age of 87. Born in Trenton, NJ and later a long-time Hingham Crow Point resident. He was the child of Carl and Carolyn Mount and the older brother of Paul Jay Mount of Florida.

His wife, Suzanne (Van Orden) taught in the Hingham Public Schools system until her premature death from cancer in 1985. They had four children, Jill of Bellingham, WA, Sharon of Charlotte, VT, Van of Conroe, TX, and Alan of Weymouth, MA. Additionally he had 11 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Lee was fortunate to meet and form a loving and caring relationship with Diana Charles, who along with her family, has remained his partner and friend for life.

Lee graduated from Hamilton High School as senior class president and received a degree in civil engineering from Lafayette College. He was a licensed professional engineer and active member of the Society of Naval Architects & Marine Engineers having served as chairman of the New England section. He and his family spent two years in Holland working in Rotterdam on the Sealand Container Ship construction program. He was involved in other marine design projects for the U.S. Navy, U.S. Coast Guard, Bethlehem Steel Co. Quincy and J.J. Henry Co. Naval Architects. His civil work projects have included tank design and inspection services for Clean Harbors.

Lee was a stained glass hobbyist, creating many lamp shades and pieces in the Frank Lloyd Wright tradition. He loved the outdoors and time spent with Diana in NH sailing, swimming, skiing, hiking, reading, crossword and jigsaw puzzles, and his favorite…chopping wood!

A celebration of Lee’s life is planned for later this Spring, details to be shared at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Hingham Historical Society.
