Kenneth Strone Obituary

Kenneth F. Strone passed away June 5, 2026, after a brief illness.

Kenneth was born in Passaic, New Jersey, the son of Frank S. Strone and Helen D. Strone on March 28, 1943.  He was raised in Island Park, (Long Island) New York. He attended schools in Long Beach and Rockville Center and was a graduate of North Texas University with a B.A degree.

His school activities included basketball and tennis.  As a summer lifeguard at Hewett Beach on Long Island, Ken was especially proud of having saved a young child.

Kenny married his high school sweetheart Jane Lewan on July 20, 1968. They moved to Hingham in 1975 and raised two sons, Christopher and Gregory.

In 1982 Kenny was featured in an article published by The Phoenix, “Lifestyle Boston” about bartenders.  As a manager and bartender at The Exchange Ken said, “It’s a very demanding business, as if you’re having a dinner party five days a week for 200 people at your house and give them the illusion that they are the only two people”. Ken was also quoted as saying “I’m never in the doldrums of a corporate situation which I experienced while working in sales on Madison Avenue “.

Being an entrepreneur, Kenny was part owner of the Buckboard Bar on Long Island. He raised sales and increased profits at the various service industry jobs he held through his 35-year career in hospitality management including The Exchange, Boston and Ponkapoag Golf Course, Canton. The developer of the Black Rock Country Club where Ken worked referred to him as the ultimate concierge, always making sure the customer came first and taking care of every detail.

He retired from the Hingham School Department as a school bus driver in 2023. Kenny was an important figure in the lives of the children he safely transported. One of his favorite beverage containers at home was a large cup on which was printed; “Mr. Ken”, a gift from a child passenger.

As a humanitarian, Kenny devoted a lifelong commitment to many causes. He was a top pledge raiser for a bike tour for the New England Home for Little Wanders. Kenny was the first Director of the Quincy March of Dimes Walk, who recruited teams of walkers instead of individuals and raised more funds.  Ken was awarded the Ugliest Bartender Award of MA for raising the most contributions from customers for the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation.

Kenny was predeceased by his beloved wife, Jane (2016) and cherished son Christopher (2011). He is survived by his son, Gregory Strone and granddaughters, Sophie and Chloe Strone of London, England, and his sister Carolyn Strone of Santa Monica, CA.

Kenny was generous with his time and always made efforts to help family, friends and neighbors. He will be greatly missed.

Donations in memory of Kenny may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or South Shore Conservatory, 1 Conservatory Drive, Hingham, to honor Christopher Strone and create a fund for a future music student.
