Kenneth D. Burgess, 77, of Quincy (formerly of Pembroke and Plymouth), passed away peacefully at home on July 23, 2019.
Ken is survived by his loving wife of 59 years Patricia “Patty” (Lyons) Burgess; and was the devoted father of Kim Burgess and her husband Charlie Green of Los Alamos, New Mexico; and Leslie Gomes and her husband Matt of Whitefield, Maine. He was the loving grandfather of Keeley Gomes. Ken was predeceased by his sisters and brothers Janet (Walter) Bergman, Carolyn (Italo) Mannai, James Burgess, Charlie Burgess and Thomas (Carol) Burgess. He leaves behind several loving nieces and nephews, as well as his good friend Charlie.
Ken was a 1960 graduate of Quincy High School where he was a member of the Football Hall of Fame. He was an active member of Tri-Town Rotary, heavily involved in local churches -- serving as a Eucharistic Minister at both St. Thecla Parish in Pembroke and St. Joseph Parish in Quincy, and he often served in local food pantries. As a friend of Bill W., he mentored and assisted many others in the program. Ken and Patty operated Pembroke Florist for over 30 years. Ken was a sports enthusiast who coached little league football in Quincy and never missed any of his daughters’ field hockey games or his granddaughter’s sports and school events. He rarely missed a Quincy/No. Quincy Thanksgiving football game. He enjoyed vacationing with his family, and telling stories to all who would listen.
Visiting hours will be held Friday July 26th from 4–7 pm at the Downing Cottage Funeral Chapel, 21 Pond Street, Hingham MA. The funeral service will be held Saturday July 27th at 10 am at St. Joseph Parish, 550 Washington St., Quincy.
