Obituary

Karen L. Jacobs of Hingham, MA passed away peacefully on September 2, 2023.

Karen was born on December 7, 1944, in Brockton, MA to the late Joseph and Ruth (Smith) Hebert.

She married Russell F. Jacobs on November 22, 1968.  Happily married for 40 years until his sudden passing in 2008; they were true partners and best friends. Karen and Russ spent many years living in Pembroke, MA perfecting the landscape of their yard and were known to host magnificent pool parties. At the pinnacle of their retirement, Karen and Russ relocated to Plymouth, MA and enjoyed wonderful new friendships with neighbors and community members from Great Island at The Pinehills. In 2022, Karen relocated to Hingham where she met kind and caring friends at Linden Ponds Senior Living.

Following her graduation from Weymouth High School, Karen had a successful career in the financial industry for over 45 years. She was an Operations Officer and Assistant Vice President at Shawmut Bank for 9 years. Karen was recruited by State Street Corporation for her IRS reporting knowledge and experience, where she worked at the bank as a Vice President in Tax Compliance until her retirement in 2007. The bank recognized her dedication and work ethic, and she was selected to attend a 2-year program at Williams College School of Banking, which focused on Business Administration and Tax Withholding.

Karen will be remembered for her fun-loving nature and the ease with which she made friends.  She will be missed by both new and old friends who always enjoyed her company, which included a glass of wine and a good laugh.  Karen’s beloved dog, Biscuit, provided many years of love and companionship. Karen loved to travel and enjoyed many adventures including trips to Florida, Aruba, Napa Valley, St. Thomas, and Hawaii.

Karen was preceded in death by her husband, Russ and her sister, Nancy L. Wood.  She is survived by her nephew, David Hansen, Clemens, NC and her niece Holly Hansen, Hyde Park, MA.  Karen was great aunt to Bryan, Taylor, Kimberly, and Austin, and known as Gigi to Jacob and Kayla; she always enjoyed their hugs and smiles.  Godmother to Christine Boulanger McCarthy and her husband Kevin of Franklin, MA and Susan Boulanger Dawes of Somerset, MA, and lovingly known as Mimi by Drew, Hayden, & Ian.   Karen will be sorely missed by lifelong dear friend, Nancy Grieves Boulanger of Plymouth.

Karen’s legacy lives on through the memories she created and the lives she touched.  Her joyful spirit will continue to inspire and uplift those who carry her memory in their hearts.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral on Monday, September 11, 2023, at the Church of the Holy Nativity, 8 Nevin Road, South Weymouth at 11 AM. A private burial will be held at a later date.
