John Blake Cooley, age 91, of Marshfield passed away on Saturday, September 25, 2021 with his beloved wife Patricia holding his hand. Mr. Cooley was born in Boston and graduated from Hingham High School in 1949. In 1948, he won the National High School and Prep School high jump championship at Madison Square Garden. He was an avid outdoorsman. John was honored to carry the guidon at graduation from training for the United States Marine Corp. He served as a sergeant and instructor at Parris Island during the Korean War. He loved his country. John was a longtime member of Boston’s International Union of Elevator Constructors Local 4.
John is remembered for his generosity, loyalty and love for his family. He is survived by his devoted wife of 69 years, Patricia (Thompson), daughters Debra Ann Haislip (Pliny) of Bethlehem, Georgia and Lisa Joan Carpenter (Richard) of Leesburg, Virginia; brother Dr. Mark Hedge Cooley of Jamaica Plain; eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. He is predeceased by his parents Harold and Marguerite (Hedge) Cooley and brother David Sears Cooley.
