Joan P. (Enos) Rodgers, 85, of Hingham, passed away quietly on April 2, 2023 with her daughter by her side.
Joan was the loving wife, for 51 years, of the late Stead (Toby) W. Rodgers II. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles Enos and Helen (O’Leary) Enos and brother Charles (Charlie) Enos as well as her beloved black lab. She leaves her children, Susan Rodgers of Hingham, MA and David J. Rodgers of Seattle, WA as well as stepson, Stead Rodgers III of Florida. She is survived by her sister Deborah (Enos) Downing of Hingham.
A lifetime Hingham resident, she graduated from Hingham High School in 1955. Escapades with her longtime friend and collaborator, Rose (Caparrotta) Johnson, were alluded to with some gaps in details to protect the innocent. Joan worked for the phone company before becoming a flight attendant for Northeast Airlines. She traveled up and down the eastern seaboard in DC-3’s experiencing life to its fullest prior to literally marrying the boy next door. She and Toby built a home which became the site of the neighborhood hockey and soccer games, Hingham Militia clambakes, and high school pig roasts. Her greatest joys were working in their yard (which she mowed on a John Deere until she was 80) and spending time with their family. Joan’s love of nature and wildlife surrounded her with flowers, birds, chipmunks, coyotes, raccoons, and turkeys.
She will truly be missed here, but will happy to be reunited with Toby.
A private burial will be held at a later date.
