Janet L. (Marland) Sullas, 89, of Weymouth, MA died peacefully at home on August 15 surrounded by family.
Born in Weymouth in 1934 to Stanley I. Marland and Velma (McNiece) Marland, she graduated from Weymouth HS in 1951. She worked for 40 years as a telephone operator for NE Telephone Company and as a data analyst for Verizon retiring in 1996.
Janet grew up a dancer and opened a dance studio in Weymouth with E. Virginia Williams, founder of the Boston Ballet. She was a beautiful knitter who spent many years contributing her time and knitting to the St. Francis Xavier holiday bazaars. She loved to read, play scrabble, and do crosswords online. She was known for her wonderful cooking, baking, and feeding everyone! Her kindness made those who knew her feel special and loved. No wonder her family nickname was Auntie Honey.
Janet was predeceased by her husband George W. Sullas who was the light and love of her life. Beloved mother of Helene Sullas-Huggins and her husband Christopher Huggins of Arlington; Laura Hickey and her husband Steven of Weymouth; Nancy Sullas of Watertown; Joy Czochanski and her husband Peter of Watertown; Steven Sullas of Weymouth; Michael Sullas and his wife Dori of Discovery Bay, CA; and Elizabeth Padula and her husband Paul of Weymouth. She was predeceased by her cherished daughter Kathleen Sullas. Beloved sister of Shirley Neal of Braintree; Janice Jones of Hingham; Susan Packard of Brockton and the late Deborah Allen of Halifax. She is lovingly remembered by 16 grandchildren and their spouses, 13 great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
Visiting hours will be Thursday August 31 from 4 to 7pm at Downing Funeral Chapel 21 Pond St Hingham, MA. A graveside celebration of life will be held at Blue Hill Cemetery on Friday September 1 at 11:00am. For those planning on attending, please meet at 10:45am at the cemetery office 700 West St Braintree MA. Following the graveside celebration of life, all are invited back to a reception lunch at the Weathervane Golf Club Tavern 117 Clubhouse Drive Weymouth from 12:30-04:00. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Janet's memory to either the American Lung Association, NAMI South Shore, or Weymouth Food Pantry
