Holly Schjolden Obituary

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Holly D. Schjolden on October 17, 2022 at the age of 80 after a prolonged illness.  She was surrounded by love of her family and died peacefully.  Holly graduated top of her class from North Quincy High School and was very proud to graduate Magna Cum Laude with her Masters degree from Eastern Nazarene College.  She was employed as a teacher, vice principal and principal in the Whitman public school system for 45 years and received numerous accolades culminating in her nomination for Massachusetts Teacher of the Year in 2006.  She subsequently declined this honor in favor of continuing her work with her students which was always her priority.  Holly was a selfless human being splitting her time between teaching and caring for her husband of 25 years who was stricken with Multiple Sclerosis at a young age. Holly was an active and charter member of the House of Prayer Lutheran Church in Hingham, MA. Her joy came from family, teaching, her faith, her cats and sitting down with a good book.

Holly was the wife of the late Roy M. Schjolden and daughter of the late Dorothy A. Stoner and Edward J. Stoner. She is survived by her sister and brother-in-law Jane G. and George A. Ohlson of Hanover, brother-in-law Warren M. Schjolden of Rockland, nephew Scott A. Ohlson of Hull, niece Dawn J. Lastowka and her husband Eric of Hanover, niece Lauren J. Becker and her husband Jeff of Hanover, niece Karolyn H. Gear and her husband Chris of Hanover and many grand nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at House of Prayer Lutheran Church in Hingham on Saturday, October 22, 2022 at 11:00 am.  Interment will be at the Washington Street Cemetery in Norwell.  Those wishing to share their condolences are encouraged to attend the funeral as there will be no visiting hours or reception.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to the National MS Society at nationalmssociety.org or to the House of Prayer Lutheran Church at 916 Main St. Hingham, MA 02043.
