Grace Ruth Hatch, of Weymouth, died on October 7, 2022 of bladder cancer. She was proudly 93 and 10 months old, but had her heart set on living to be 120.
Grace was born in 1929, and her father would always tell people that she was the cause of the Great Depression, which she did not find amusing. She was the first in her Italian immigrant family to attend college, at Eastern Nazarene College in Quincy. She went on to get a Ph.D. in Education at Kent State University. She spent much of her career teaching, which she loved, and taught classes from elementary to graduate school. Later in life she became a real estate broker and also spent time teaching people to pass the real estate exam.
She raised four children, primarily on her own. She was predeceased by one of her daughters and is survived by three adult children: Sharon James of Hingham, Kristin Hatch of Provincetown and Geoffrey Hatch of Hingham. She had three grandchildren: Hunter Freyer of Kingston, NY, Jessica Freyer of Boston, and Wesley Williams of Allston.
She was a life-long Nazarene and most recently a member of the North Street Community Church of the Nazarene. She loved the Lord.
Grace had many talents including a rich soprano singing voice, She was an accomplished seamstress and made her own wedding gown and the gowns of each of her bridesmaids. She lived her life with a positive attitude and, in her 90s, when asked how she was doing, she would smile and say “vertical and ventilating ”.
Services will be at the North Street Community Church of the Nazarene, 235 North St, Hingham on Wednesday, October 12, 2022 at 3:30 PM. All are welcome to attend.
In Grace’s memory, we ask that donations be made to the North Street Community Church of the Nazarene, an organization that was close to her heart.
