Daniel Scott Patrick Dodd, 58, of Hingham, Massachusetts passed away on November 21, 2023 at Tufts Medical Center after a long illness. Born in Boston, Massachusetts in 1965 to James Dodd and the late Virginia (MacArthur) Dodd, he grew up in Quincy, Massachusetts and completed school at North Quincy High School. He went on to graduate from Massachusetts Maritime Academy in 1987. He worked as a merchant marine and later became a systems analyst for State Street. Throughout these careers, he was given various travel opportunities which sparked his interest in exploring the world. He also took a liking to piloting small aircrafts for recreation.
Besides these adventurous hobbies, Dan could also be found taking long walks on the beach, playing and watching golf, cheering on his favorite sports team the New England Patriots, or making delicious, homemade meals for his friends and family. Dan was also very passionate about animals. For the past couple of years, Dan volunteered at various local animal shelters and took up dog walking for families. Most of all, he loved watching his two daughters grow up, and he was extremely proud of their accomplishments.
He was the husband of Karen (Mazzotta) Dodd, the loving father of Laura and Ellie Dodd of Hingham, the brother of James Dodd and his wife Jean of Quincy, Steven Dodd and his wife Patricia of Quincy, Susan Tabak and her husband Joseph of Weymouth, and Andrew Dodd of Quincy. He was also the uncle of many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Saturday, November 25 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Downing Cottage Funeral Chapel, 21 Pond Street, Hingham. A private funeral service will be held later. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Scituate Animal Shelter or Shultz’s Guest House in Dedham
