Charles J Matzell

Charles J. (Chuck) Matzell of Hingham MA died after a short illness on Monday, January 13, with his wife and children at his side.

Born in 1942, in Lyons, NY, he was the son of Clifford J. and Berniece Shrader Matzell.  He attended Churchville-Chili Central Schools near Rochester, NY, earned his Bachelor’s degree at SUNY Fredonia, and pursued graduate studies at Syracuse University.  His career in advertising began at a radio station in Jamestown, NY, continued through his years as a copywriter, and culminated as Executive Vice President and Associate Creative Director at Arnold Worldwide in Boston.

He was the beloved husband and partner of his wife of 60 years, Carol Kresman Matzell; the loving father of his son Brook D. Matzell, and daughter Suzanne M. Moon, of Scituate.   Suzanne and her husband Douglas are parents to his three grandchildren, Alex, Kyle, and Will, who gave him great joy in his retirement years.  His siblings are Nancy S. Matzell of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, Thomas G. Matzell, of Belmont, and the late Mark A. Matzell.  His family includes many nieces and nephews.

Friends and family are invited to attend visiting hours at Downing Funeral Cottage, 21 Pond Street, Hingham, MA on Saturday, January 25, from 1pm to 3pm, with a memorial service to follow at 3pm.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to The Jimmy Fund (via the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute) are suggested.
