Carolyn S. Koonce

Koonce, Carolyn (Rosie) S. Age 83, passed away on October 24, 2021.

Carolyn grew up in Arlington where she was the head Majorette at Arlington High, and then attended Boston University where she received a business degree. She cherished the time she spent with her family whom she raised in Hingham. She also loved playing tennis with friends, windsurfing and serving as a Girl Scout leader. Her passion for tennis led to building a court in the backyard and starting a tennis teaching business, instructing the game she loved and building lasting friendships. Carolyn loved traveling and wintered in Grand Cayman and in St. John, U. S. Virgin Islands where she taught tennis and ran a bed and breakfast for 20 years. She made many friends in the islands and loved living in the natural beauty. She later opened a bed and breakfast in Wellfleet and then in Centerville MA.

Loving wife of 54 years to David Koonce and loving mother to Karin Alper and her husband Michael of Chestnut Hill, Erik Koonce and wife Kelly of Chalfont, PA, and the late Mark and Jonathan Koonce. Stepmother to David Koonce of Boxborough, Jeffrey Koonce and wife Irene of Canyon Lake, TX, and Michael Koonce and wife Lee of Mashpee. Dear sister to Suzanne Kittredge of Yarmouthport, Marcia Huse of Centerville, Kenneth Stone of Charlestown, Deborah Fiore of Merrimack, NH and the late Cynthia Stone. Proud and loving grandmother to Robert and Daniel Alper and Grace, Matthew and Mary Koonce. Also survived by many nieces and nephews, all of whom she loved.

The family would like to thank the staff at Pleasant Bay in Brewster and the compassionate hospice care provided by the Broadreach organization. Donations can be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation in lieu of flowers.

A service will be held on Saturday, October 30th at Downing Cottage Funeral Chapel, 21 Pond Street in Hingham at 1:00. Masks will be required. Burial will follow at the Hingham Cemetery.
