Allan E. Pratt

Allan E. Pratt of Hingham, formerly of Cohasset, passed away peacefully Monday October 25, 2021 at the age of 88. Allan, son of Alberta and Nelson Pratt, is survived by his loving wife June; his sons, Raymond and Albert; grandchildren - Emily, Ethan, Eben, Elias and Norah; and great-grandchildren - Marshall, Hudson, Emery and Adrienne; brothers Nelson and Donald, and sister Marjorie; and predeceased by brothers Edward, Eliot and Richard, and sister Marilyn. After serving in the US Army in Korea, Allan worked as a machinist at D.S. Kennedy Co. until he followed his passion and became a pilot. He worked for Wiggins Airways as a flight instructor and charter pilot. His employment as a pilot for Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) - Lincoln Laboratory was a highlight of his career which took him to various places around the country flying research scientists. He was proud to be part of the research that advanced highly sensitive aviation collision avoidance systems.

Throughout his life, Allan took pleasure in amateur radio, biking, walking and spending time with his family. He also enjoyed spending summer vacations canoeing and fishing in Maine. He followed his curiosity and desire to learn by developing hobbies in beekeeping, canoe rebuilding, wood working, electronics, and general crafting. Allan found joy and a sense of purpose by helping his sons build their respective houses after retirement. His efforts and presence will forever be appreciated on these momentous projects. His gentle and kind spirit will be remembered by everyone who knew him. He will be greatly missed and forever loved.

A graveside service will be held at the Hingham Center Cemetery Saturday November 6th at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Massachusetts Trustees of Reservations, www.thetrustees.org. Allan enjoyed walking on Trustees’ land for many years.
