Adrienne DuBois Obituary

Adrienne Allen DuBois of Hingham, MA passed away peacefully at home on February 24, 2022, after a valiant battle with lung cancer.  Adrienne was born on February 6, 1938, in Toronto, Ontario. Adrienne earned a bachelor’s degree and a Primary School Specialist degree at Trinity College, University of Toronto, Canada. As a working mother, she earned a master’s degree in Education at the College of New Rochelle, NY. Adrienne raised her three children in Rye, NY, and later moved to Hingham, MA, where she spent the later years of her life.

Adrienne’s career in education spanned five decades, as an Early Education teacher, learning disability specialist, Adjunct Professor at Columbia Teacher’s College in New York, NY, and Manhattanville College in Purchase, NY, and educational consultant. She founded First Steps in America in 1988, instructing American culture and customs courses to foreign-born nationals.  In 1993, Adrienne founded DuBois & Associates, a firm specializing in the planning and placement for children of foreign nationals relocating from overseas into US schools and colleges.

Adrienne’s time instructing was matched by her unquenchable interest in being a lifelong learner including continuing education programs relating to the environment, sustainability, art, music, cooking, and culture.

Relocating to Hingham in 2007, Adrienne immersed herself in activities and programs at South Shore Golf Club and Cohasset Golf Club, the Community Garden Club of Cohasset, Chilton Club of Boston, and St. Andrew’s Club in Delray, Florida. Adrienne was a duplicate ACBL Bridge player, jazz pianist, and loved art, culture, and travel.

Adrienne is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Anne and Dave Rouse of Redmond, OR; daughter and son-in-law Catherine and Cal O’Callaghan; son Peter DuBois. She was blessed with seven grandchildren: Kate, Charlotte, Allie and Sarah O’Callaghan, Astrid, Greta, and Johan DuBois. She is also survived by a brother and sister-in-law, Peter and Jocelyn Allen of Toronto, Ontario, brother-in-law Phil Metcalf of Haverford, PA, and her beloved nephews, niece, their spouses, and children. Adrienne was preceded in death by her parents, John C.L Allen and Frances Allen of Toronto, Ontario, and sister, Diana Metcalf of Haverford, PA. She leaves behind a legacy of family and friends who will forever embody A’s spirit.

A celebration of life will be held on a future date (to be announced). In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations to Holly Hill Farm 236 Jerusalem Rd, Cohasset, MA 02025.
