Richard E. “Dick” Morgan, Jr., a Norwell resident for over 34 years, passed away peacefully following a lengthy illness on July 11, 2018. He was 73 years of age. He was the oldest of three children of the late Margaret and Richard E. Morgan.
Richard was raised and educated in Weymouth, and was a graduate of Weymouth High School. He worked for many years as the building commissioner for the town of Hingham, prior to his retirement. After his retirement, he worked part time at the Building Department in Mashpee and then Carver and also a courtesy driver at Best Chevrolet.
Richard truly enjoyed both driving, and spending time speaking with people. He had a deep love of architecture, and could recite the MA Building code book from memory. He loved spending time tinkering on things around the house, and often created unique solutions for ‘fixing’ things. He enjoyed all things connected to the ocean, and spending time in Sagamore Beach. He and Wendy would also spend significant time with their two poodles in their second favorite place, Jackson N.H.
Over the years, Richard was involved in the Rotary, UNH Parents Association, MBCIA, SEMBOA, Resurrection Parish Council, and Hingham Militia and Norwell call fire department. .
Richard is survived by his beloved wife Wendy C. Morgan of Sagamore Beach, daughter Laura M. Morgan and her fiancé Bob Varga of Denver, CO. He is also survived by cousins Debra, John and Annah Coddington of Beverly, and John J. McGuinness of Wilmington. He is also survived by many cherished family members including Shelley Call of North Attleboro, Keith and Maureen Call of Brockton, and Brenda McGann of Billericca. He is further survived by many more cherished extended family members and close friends.
Visiting hours will be held at the Downing Cottage Funeral Chapel, 21 Pond Street, Hingham on Friday, July 13, 2018 from 4 to 7 p.m. All relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Funeral from the Downing Cottage Funeral Chapel on Saturday, July 14 at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral mass at Church of the Resurrection, 1057 Main Street, Hingham at 10 a.m. Interment will be held at Hingham Cemetery.
