Myron Simpson Sleeper 84, passed away peacefully at Webster Park Rehabilitation in Rockland, MA on January 13th after a brief illness.

Born in Brockton on June 27th, 1932 he was the son of Madella Simpson Sleeper and Myron Osgood Sleeper. Raised in Hanson MA with a profound love of the natural world, he followed his fathers foot steps into every remote and wild place accessible by walking or paddling. His greatest joy was spending time in the water swimming or on the water with his series of small wooden watercraft being paddled, rowed or sailed. Each of these boats were either home built or restored antique vessels, the flagship of the fleet being a red 1935 Old Town Canoe he bought and restored in 1961. Myron earned a degree in biology from Boston University in 1955 where he belonged to the swim team. During his college summers he supervised the Camp Kiwanee waterfront on Crystal Clear Lake Maquan (Maquan Pond) in Hanson for five seasons managing a large staff and teaching life saving as a certified Red Cross Instructor to hundreds of area youth along with swimming and boating. He spent two years in the navy as a radar operator and radioman aboard the USS Albany before starting a career in sales in numerous industries.

Beloved husband of Joan Cunningham Sleeper of Marshfield, loving father of Johanna Bickford and her husband Peter Bickford of Hingham MA, and Myron “Mike” Sleeper and his wife Laurie Sleeper of Marshfield. He was also the cherished grandfather to John Alessi of Burlington, VT and Benjamin and Sarah Sleeper of Marshfield.

A private service is planned for the spring.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Friends of Camp Kiwanee C/O Hanson Town Hall, 542 Liberty St. Hanson MA 02341
