John V. Ketchum of Halifax, formerly of Hingham, died November 4, 2018 at the age of 71 from a stroke.
He was the son of the late Kenneth and Virginia Ketchum of Hingham. He leaves his wife Linda, daughter Olivia and granddaughter Scarlett of Halifax; also his daughter Flora, son in law Ryan and grandchildren Karlee and Sawyer of Middleboro. John will also be missed by his brother Bill and his wife Debi of Cohasset and many nieces and nephews.
John was born in Boston and raised in Hingham. He attended Hingham Schools and graduated in 1966 from North Yarmouth Academy in Maine. He is an Army Vietnam Veteran and was part of the 101st Airborne where he received the Bronze Star. John was a Hingham Fireman for 32 years. John was also a finish carpenter and had a passion for saltwater fishing. His deepest love was for his family and especially his grandchildren. John was respected for his work and loved for his huge heart.
Visiting hours will be held at the Downing Cottage Funeral Chapel, 21 Pond Street Hingham on Friday, November 9, 2018 from 4 to 7 p.m. A funeral service will be held at the Hingham Congregational Church, 378 Main Street Hingham, on Saturday, November 10, 2018 at 11 a.m. Interment will take place in the Massachusetts National Cemetery on Tuesday at 10:30 a.m.
