Jean M (Henderson) Helmberger

Jean M Helmberger, of Hingham, age 94, passed away after an 8 year battle with cancer on August 15, 2018.

Devoted wife of Joseph Helmberger, mother of Douglas Pilgrim and mother-in-law of Robin Pilgrim. Jean is also survived by her grandchildren, Brock Pilgrim, Kendell Pilgrim, Madeleine Pilgrim and Georgia Pilgrim.

Jean was a scholarship graduate of the Archbishop McDonald High School for girls in Brooklyn New York. At the age of 15 she was voted the Queen of the 1940 World’s Fair. She worked at IBM as a teacher for many years where she met her husband. Jean moved to Hingham in 1966 and worked part time as a seamstress before pursuing a career in real estate.

Jean became Hingham’s first “Million Dollar” woman broker and went on to become one of the founding partners of Bare Cove Realty / Gallery 360. Jean was the first woman Rotarian in Hingham. Jean was a member of the Hingham Yacht Club, the Hingham Tennis Club and The South Shore Country Club. Beside the love and devotion she had for her grandchildren, Jean had a love of travel having visited Europe on multiple occasions.

The family plans a private celebration of her life in the near future.
