Helen Norma (Lewis) Ireton

Helen Norma (Lewis) Ireton of Hingham, passed away on September 25, 2017 at the age of 84. She resided at Hobart Grove in the Linden Ponds Retirement Community.

Born in Bobcaygeon, Ontario, Canada, she then lived in Midland, Ontario. Attending nursing school in Canada, she moved, in her early 20’s, to the San Francisco Bay Area where she worked and lived for several years as a pediatric nurse at Cowell Hospital at the University of California at Berkeley. She was a resident of Hingham for 50 years.   

Helen is survived by her three children, Erin Elliott of Mill Valley, CA, Kelly Clemens of Newport, RI and Alan Ireton of Winter Park, FL, as well as her five grandchildren, Conner & Lizzy Elliott, Tripp Clemens and Ellie & Olivia Ireton. Also surviving her are her two brothers, Fred and Morgan Lewis who reside in the Toronto, Ontario area, as well as her many Canadian nieces, nephews and their families. She is predeceased by her sister, Marion Young, also of the Toronto area, and her brother Wendell Lewis, of Hamilton, Ontario.

Helen was active in the Hingham community. One of her proudest achievements was initiating the Hingham effort for “Daffodil Days”, a national fundraiser in support of the American Cancer Society in the late 1980’s.  For many years she organized volunteer residents, selling bundles of daffodils at both the Hingham Shipyard during the commute hours as well in downtown Hingham Square. She and her crew brought early Spring cheer and funds to this important cause. 

All are invited to attend a memorial service to honor her life on Saturday, December 9, 2017 at Old Ship Church, 90 Main Street, Hingham at 11am. 

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Old Ship Church, 107 Main St. Hingham, MA 02043, dedicated towards maintenance of their Memorial Garden.
