Galen Hobart Hersey, lifelong resident of Hingham, passed away on Sunday, September 23, 2018 at the age of 69.
Galen was the beloved husband for 48 years of Myrla E. (Henrichsen) Hersey. Loving father of Gretchen Amonte and her husband Matthew, and Matthew Hersey. Cherished grandfather of Nicholas Hersey, Sophia Hersey, Avery Amonte, and Grace Amonte. He is also survived by his brother, Roger L. Hersey Jr. and sisters, Janet Andrews and Marilyn MacDonald. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Roger L. and Hazel J. Hersey and sister, Deborah Hersey.
Galen was born in raised in Hingham where he graduated from Hingham High School. He also graduated from East Coast Aerotech with an Associate’s Degree. Galen was self-employed with Hersey Real Estate for over 50 years prior to his retirement. He was a member of Old Colony Masonic Lodge, Boy Scouts Troop 52, and the Bare Cove Fire Museum. Galen was a wonderful man who will be truly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Visiting hours will be held at the Downing Cottage Funeral Chapel, 21 Pond Street Hingham on Friday, September 28, 2018 from 4 to 7 p.m. A funeral service will be held at the First Baptist Church, 85 Main Street Hingham, on Saturday, September 29, 2018 at 2 p.m. Interment will immediately follow in Fort Hill Cemetery where a Masonic Service will be conducted.
