Frederick A. Durling of Hingham passed peacefully at the South Shore Hospital on July 26th, 2019 at the age of 75. He was the beloved husband of Verna M. (Dunham) Durling for 49 years. Dear father of Mark A. Durling and his wife Kristen of Carver and proud grandfather of Matthew and Abigail. Frederick was survived by many loved nieces and nephews as well as sisters, Georgia Bates and her husband Marshall of Scituate and E. Ann Hardwick of Maine and many other extended family members and friends. He was adored by his brother in law of Reverend Arthur Dunham and his wife Lee and sister in law Marcia Creighton. He was the cherished son of the late George and Eleanor (Fairbank) Durling.
A 1962 graduate of Hingham High, Frederick became a member of the United States Air Force during the Vietnam era were he served in the SAC Strategic Air Command and was a proud American. Frederick had a long career as a printer, before his eventual career move as a boat captain for both the Boston commuter boats and the Boston water taxis. He had a love for hockey, camping, fishing and was a train enthusiast. Frederick not only loved these endeavors but he spent as much time as he could with his family, especially on travels, most notably to Naples, Florida and Bermuda, where he even learned to scuba dive. He also enjoyed bowling as a member of a retiree bowling league at South Shore Country Club.
He was a member of South Shore Baptist for almost 40 years, and he loved and walked with God his whole life.
In lieu of flowers family has requested that donations be made in Frederick’s name to the Salvation Army, 6 Baxter St, Quincy, MA 02169 or www.SalvationArmy.org and the South Shore Baptist Mission Fund. Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, July 30th from 4-7pm at the South Shore Baptist Church 578 Main Street Hingham. Funeral services will be held Wednesday morning July 31st at 11am at the South Shore Baptist Church. Burial will take place at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne at a later date.
