Ellen M (Murphy) Carpenter

Ellen (Murphy) Carpenter, age 71, of Cohasset, formerly of Hingham, passed away peacefully at home on April 6, 2018.

Beloved wife of James P. Carpenter, whom she married in 1971;  and loving mother to Jennifer Boylan and husband Michael of Cohasset, Melissa Haire and husband Casey of Darien, CT and Timothy Carpenter and wife Rose of Boston. Adoring grandmother to ten young grandchildren, Courtney, Isabelle, Liam, Jack and Owen Haire; Edward, Charles and Henry Carpenter;  and Margaret and Seamus Boylan all of whom loved their Gram dearly. Cherished sister of John Murphy of Cotuit; Richard Murphy of Hingham; Maryann Murphy of Cohasset; and the late James Murphy of Plymouth; and devoted daughter of the late Mary (Dolan) and James G. Murphy.

After many years at home, caring lovingly for her children and family, Ellen enjoyed nearly three decades as a teacher in the Hingham Public Schools, where she was devoted to her students and her teaching team. She met each day with faith, strength and resilience and was an inspiration to her family and to her many dear friends.

Family and friends will gather to celebrate Ellen’s life on Wednesday April 11 from 4-8 in the evening at Downing Cottage Funeral Chapel, 21 Pond Street Hingham. A memorial Mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, April 12, 2018, at St. Anthony’s Church, 10 Summer Street Cohasset.
