Dorothy Mae Burns, of Hingham, passed away on Sunday, November 4, 2018 at the age of 88 after a long battle with cancer.
Dorothy Mae Burns was born on May 3, 1930 in Quincy, Massachusetts to Charles and Viola Heaman. Dorothy moved to Hingham in the early 60’s, where she raised three children and worked in management at Firestone Tire in Hingham and Quincy. Dorothy most recently worked at the Hingham Institute for Savings and has volunteered extensively at the South Shore Medical Center. Dorothy was a dedicated mother and grandmother who always put family first. Dorothy shared her love for New England by leading bus tours. She was devoted in her faith and was active at the Senior Center in Hingham.
Dorothy is survived by her three children, Skip Burns of Camas WA, Cheryl (Shawn) Tiernan of Branford CT, and Stephen (Holly) Burns of Andover MA, and five grandchildren, Christian, Brian, Kelly, Jackson and Zachary.
A funeral service will be held Saturday, November 10 at 2pm at the Episcopal Parish of St. John the Evangelist, 172 Main St., Hingham MA. Friends and relatives are invited to gather afterwards to celebrate and remember Dorothy.
