Claire Hooper

Claire Foster Hooper, 103, of Linden Ponds, Hingham, MA died peacefully on September 20, 2019 while residing in the Rose Court Continuing Care facility.

Claire was born December 26, 1915, daughter of William P. and Ada Bell Foster of Framingham, MA.  She graduated from Framingham High School in 1933 and Framingham State Teachers College in 1937.  She went on to teach in Framingham, Lexington and finally Stephen Palmer School in Needham, MA.

Claire resided with her husband, Roger (II) in Framingham and Needham, eventually retiring to Holly Ridge, Sandwich, MA where she took up golf and became a very accomplished golfer.  She golfed regularly well into her nineties.  Her other interests included art (designing and printing her own Christmas Cards for 75 years), furniture refinishing and daily crossword puzzles.  She was known for her unquestioning kindness and willingness to do anything for anyone.  Her social life kept her going and she always loved the company of family.  As one of her granddaughters said, “no condolences for a life lost, cheers to this woman’s life lived and the role model she will continue to play for years to come”. 

Her husband, Roger (II) died in 1989.  Surviving family members include sons, Roger W. (III) of Amherst, NH, his wife Sally, their daughter’s Deborah Farrow and her husband James, Victoria Burke and her husband Daniel, all of Amherst.   John L Hooper of Brewster, MA,  his wife Joanne and their children Abby of Warren, VT and Brad of Foxboro, MA.   William F. Hooper of Saco, ME, his son Byron also of Saco and his wife Tina.  Bill’s youngest son Owen of Glenville, NY and his wife Amber.  The light of her life, her great grand children; Taylor and Anna Farrow, Sierra and Mckenzie Burke (NH) and Renna Pickering (VT), Grace and Rosie Hooper (ME) and Evelyn, Oliver and Thomas Hooper (NY).

There will be a Memorial Service of Celebration on December 26th at Linden Ponds, a date that would have been Claire’s 104th birthday at 11:00am.  Interment will occur in November at the Bourne National Cemetery on Cape Cod.  Final arrangements are in the care of the Downing Cottage Funeral Chapel, 31 Pond St, Hingham, MA, 02043.
