Charles H O'Neal

Charles H. “Charlie” O’Neal, of Weymouth, passed away on Tuesday, August 7, 2018 at the age of 97.

Beloved husband of Carol A. (Cushing) and the late Margaret “Peg” O’Neal. Beloved Father of Kerry L. O’Neal and his companion Bridget “Bridey” Connelly of Whitinsville, Step Father of Betty Ann “Betsy” Monroe of Norwood, Sherwood Monroe of Florida and the Late Mark Monroe. Brother of the late John, Lawrence, Raymond, Loretta, and Mable. Also survived by his Sister In-law Sadie O’Neal of Franklin. Step-Grandfather of Becky Garden, Paul Duyette, Danyelle Hall, Michelle Cronin, and Eric Carlson.

Charlie was married to his beloved Carol, to whom he lovingly referred to as “Babe” for over 42 years. He was born in Newton, son of the late Charles and Winifred (Gately) O’Neal. He grew up in Wellesley Hills and Newton.

Charles proudly served his country in the U.S Navy and while in the Navy he was the North American Boxing Champion. Charlie was a longtime employee of the Newton Cemetery for over 30 years were he was in charge of maintenance. Charlie was always willing to lend a hand to friends and neighbors and he and his wife Carol were longstanding active members of the First Baptist Church of Hingham.

Visiting hours will be held at the Downing Cottage Funeral Chapel, 21 Pond Street Hingham, on Sunday, August 12, 2018 from 4 to 6 p.m.  A Memorial Service will be held at The First Baptist Church, 85 Main Street Hingham, on Monday, August 13, 2018 at 11 a.m.
