Carol A. O’Neal, of Weymouth, passed away on December 26, 2018 at Harbor House Nursing Home in Hingham.
She was the beloved wife of the late Charles O’Neal. She was the loving mother to Sherwood Monroe and his wife Diane of Florida, Betty Ann “Betsy” Monroe of Massachusetts, and the late Mark Monroe. In addition she leaves behind her grandchildren, Rebekah Garden, Paul Duyette, Danyelle Hall, Michelle Cronin, and Eric Carlson. She also leaves behind several great grandchildren, her sister-laws Polly Murphy, Sadie O’Neal, her cousins Alice Buker, Marilyn Tilton Carol Barnard, Winfred Wyatt and survived by several nieces and nephews.
Carol was married to Charlie for over 42 years. She was born and raised in Belmont New Hampshire, daughter of the late Russell and Carrie Cushing.
Carol trained at The Convalescent Home in Wellesley, which was associated with Boston Children’s Hospital. She then went on to Nanny many children in the Boston and Brookline area. Later in life she was employed for 26 years at Armstrong Cork Company in Braintree.
Carol married Charlie in 1975 spending their life together in Weymouth. She enjoyed skiing, line dancing, and bowling, and in later years taking bus trips with her friends from the Whipple Center in Weymouth. She was a devote member of the First Baptist Church in Hingham for over 50 years where she built great friendships throughout the years. She also donated her time volunteering at the Hingham senior center where she continued to make new friends. That is where she met her last best friend in life, Barbara Simmons.
Arrangements are under the care of Downing Cottage Funeral Chapel in Hingham. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 5, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church, 85 Main Street Hingham, MA. Interment will be held at Fort Hill Cemetery in Hingham at 2 p.m.
