Alec was born in 1926 in North Adams, Massachusetts where he grew up until moving to Fairhaven, Massachusetts. He graduated from Fairhaven High School, where his father was a Hall of Fame coach and history teacher. After serving in the Army during World War II, he graduated from Williams College in 1949. While at Williams, he sang in the Octet and continued as a lifelong member. Last June, he attended his 70th reunion at Williams with his daughter, Leslie.
Alec started his career as an underwriter for Kemper Insurance. He retired as Division Operations Manager. After retirement, Alec became an agent for Century 21. He met his wife, Carolyn Stoddard Clement, at Kemper. They were married for 57 years. She was the love of his life. She died in 2013.
Mr. Clement sang in several professional singing groups, including Chorus Pro Musica in Boston and, also, The Church of the Advent Choir.
He was an active member of The Church of the Advent for many years with his wife and children. In later years, he sang in the choirs at Holy Nativity, Weymouth, St. John’s, Duxbury, and at St. John the Evangelist, Hingham. He was a resident in the communities of Stoneham, Reading, Hingham, Duxbury and Hanover.
Mr. Clement is survived by his brother, Edward Clement of California and his sister, Janet Taylor Ross, of Florida; his children, Leslie Malm (Bob), Robert Clement (Lynn), and Kirk Clement (Mary Bockley); and his 7 grandchildren, Chris Malm, Lindsey Malm Anders, Jessica Malm Farmer, James R.H. Malm, Alex Clement, Kayla Clement, Katherine Clement; and his three great grandchildren, Hiller Farmer, Jackson Malm, and Madeleine Farmer.
A Requiem will be held on Saturday, October 19 at 10:00 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist in Hingham. Visiting hours on Friday the 18th from 4-7 p.m. will be held at Downing Cottage Funeral Home in Hingham. The burial will be on Monday, October 21st at 11:30 a.m. at Bourne National Cemetery.
