Thelma G. (Etsell) Long,of Hingham, passed away on February 2, 2018 at the age of 95.
Beloved wife of the late George W. Long, and loving mother of Ruth E. Murphy (Richard) and adored grandmother of Dr. Lauren E. Murphy (Scott Pullen), also of Hingham. Daughter of the late Joseph and Elsie (Rolls) Etsell. Predeceased by her five sisters, Marion Baier, Evelyn Cahill, Elsie Christenson, Martha Hall, and Edna MacDonald; and her brother, William Etsell. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Thelma was born and raised in Melrose and for many years worked as a physician’s secretary. After moving to Hingham thirty years ago, Thelma enjoyed the company of many friends while volunteering at the Hingham Senior Center. Thelma loved her daily walks in Bare Cove Park with each of her many dogs and traveling to places nearby and distant with her longtime friend, the late George Clark. Her family and friends will lovingly remember her graciousness, ever-present smile, and eagerness to sing a song. Member, for more than fifty years, of the Order of the Eastern Star (Melrose).
A funeral service will be held at St. John the Evangelist Church, 172 Main Street, Hingham, MA on Wednesday, February 7th at 11:30 am. Relatives and friends invited. Private interment at the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne, MA.
