Paul William Hickey, of East Bridgewater, passed away on Sunday February 18,, 2018 in the arms of his beloved wife Diane and son David, at the age of 88.
He leaves behind his beloved wife of 65 years Diane, son Thomas and wife Judith, son David and wife Margaret, and daughter Brenda. He was predeceased by his son Matthew Paul. He is also survived by six grandchildren Krista and Shannon Hickey, Conor and Evyn Hanley, and Daniel and Bridget Hickey, as well as his brother Eddie Hickey and many beloved nieces and nephews. His memory will be carried by his countless students over the many years.
Paul was a member of the Marine Corps from 1950 until honorably discharged in 1952 serving during the Korean Conflict.
Paul was born in Hingham and raised his family there. He was a teacher at Hanover High School where he taught woodworking and math for 31 years. During his time at Hanover he coached baseball, football, girls’ softball, and sponsored 25 ski trips for students. He had the yearbook dedicated to him twice as their “Man For All Seasons”.
He was also a builder and carpenter in the South Shore area building many homes in the Hingham and surrounding areas. He attended St John the Evangelist Episcopal Church in Hingham and was an active member of the church serving the vestry, taught Sunday school for 9 years and was involved in the Church Youth Group.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 24, 2018 at St John the Evangelist Episcopal Church 172 Main Street, Hingham at 3:30 p.m. All relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend.
The family asks that any donations be made in memory of the Paul and Diane Hickey Memorial Fund in memory of Matthew Paul Hickey at the Hingham Institution of Savings for student scholarships.
