Mary (Hickey) Vaughan, of Hingham, passed away on February 24, 2018 at the age of 98.
She was the beloved wife of John I. Vaughan, and mother of Kate A. Vaughan. Both preceded her in death. She is survived by her son Michael L. Vaughan of Hingham; her son Jack I. Vaughan and his wife Cecelia E. Vaughan, of Boston; as well as her grandson Jacob L. of Boston.
Born and raised in Brighton, Mass., she attended Our Lady of the Presentation school and Brighton High School, and worked as a legal secretary in Boston before her marriage. In the 1940s through the 1960s, she and her family lived in Honolulu, Hawaii and Racine, Wisconsin.
Active in civic affairs, Mrs. Vaughan served with the Racine, Wis. chapter of the United Cerebral Palsy campaign and the League of Women Voter, and as an officer in the Shamrock Club of Racine Wisconsin.
She and her husband retired to Hingham in 1972. She and her husband were active members of St. Paul's church in Hingham. She was a member and officer in the Hingham Woman's Club, and a member of the Hingham Senior Center.
She was dedicated to her family, and leaves a legacy of love, faith, caring and humor.
Visiting hours will be held on Friday, March 2, 2018, from 4-6 p.m. at the Downing Cottage Funeral Chapel, 21 Pond Street, Hingham. A funeral Mass will be held at 11:30 a.m., Saturday, March 3, 2018 at St. Paul's Church, 147 North St., Hingham.
