Joy (Boyer) Raymond

Lora J. “Joy” (Boyer) Raymond, of Hingham, passed away peacefully at Linden Ponds on Thursday, December 7, 2017 at the age of 100.

Joy is survived by her husband of 68 years, Arthur M. Raymond. Beloved mother to Richard Raymond and his wife Jane of Quincy, Janet Lindley and her husband Reed of Pottstown, PA, and Nancy Whitney and her husband Steve of Westwood. Loving grandmother to Stephanie Freedman and her husband Carl, Kara Lindley, Stephen Lindley, Becky Whitney, and Bryce Whitney. Great grandmother of Aubree and Jamison Freedman. Sister of the late Viola Marie, Ruth, Tracy, Billy, and her twin sister June. Joy was pre-deceased by her daughter, Jean H. Raymond

Joy was born in Canonsburg, PA to the late Carl and Joy Boyer and lived her early years in Washington County, PA. She received a teaching degree from Waynesburg College.

Joy met Arthur in Boston after WWII and they married in 1949 in Arlington. She taught kindergarten and second grade for 19 years at South School in Hingham. Joy loved spending time with her family, summers in New Hampshire, and being an active member of Old South Union Church in Weymouth. She enjoyed traveling with Arthur, especially to Jerusalem, Alaska, and Hawaii.

Visiting hour will be held at the Downing Cottage Funeral Chapel, 21 Pond Street Hingham on Monday, December 11, 2017 from 10 to 11 a.m. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. All relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Interment will be held at High Street Cemetery in Hingham.
