John A Stoddard

John A. Stoddard, of Hingham, passed away on Thursday, January 18, 2018 after a brief illness at the age of 94.

Beloved husband of 64 years of Barbara L. (Lyon) Stoddard. Loving father of John A. Stoddard Jr and his wife Elizabeth of Hingham, Robin S. Hobbs and her husband Kimball of Buxton Maine, and Andrea S. Benson and her husband Damien of Marblehead. Grandfather of Daniel, Christopher, Ben and Julie. Great Grandfather of Emily, John Alden, Amelia and Emerson. Also survived by his cousins Phillip and his wife Lucille Stoddard of New Hampshire. Brother of the Late Charles, Oliver, George, Barbara, Alice, and Mary Lee.

John was a Master Mechanic for the Hingham Fire Department for over 30 Years. He served his country proudly in the U.S Navy during WWII. John was a member of the Bare Cove Fire Museum, American Legion and a 50 year member of Old Colony Masonic Lodge.

John was a wonderful husband and family man truly enjoying the time spent with his family and friends. He loved tinkering in his garage and especially wood working. In his younger years he enjoyed hunting, especially with his son John Alden.

Visiting hours will be held at The Downing Cottage Funeral Chapel, 21 Pond Street Hingham on Sunday, January 28, 2018 from 2 to 4 p.m. Relatives and Friends invited.  Funeral service and interment will be private.

In Lieu of flowers, John’s family requests donations in his memory be made to the Norwell Visiting Nurse Association, 120 Longwater Drive Norwell, MA 02061

Remember one of John’s Favorite sayings was “Howdy Neighbor”
