Helvie E (Honkalehto) Nickerson

Helvie Nickerson, of Hingham and Wellfleet, MA, died peacefully surrounded by the love of family on September 14, 2017.

Daughter of Olga (Noponen) Honkalehto and Antii Honkalehto she was born and raised in Quincy, MA. Graduate of Quincy High School and Hickox Secretarial School. A homemaker and outdoor enthusiast who especially enjoyed gardening, bicycling, swimming, sailing with her late husband Win, and walking with her faithful companion Periwinkle. For many years she was a member of Fine Arts Chorale and Second Parish Church choir. She also volunteered at the Interfaith Food Pantry.

She was the wife of the late Winsor Nickerson and is survived by her son Stuart of Falmouth, ME, three daughters:  Elizabeth Ayers of York, ME, Amy Nickerson of Shelburne, VT, and Sally Nickerson of Hampton, NH, eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Also surviving is one brother, Harold Honkalehto of Kingston, MA and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother Oswald Honkalehto of Hamilton, NY.

Memorial service will be held at Second Parish Church in Hingham, MA on October 14, 2017 at 11:00am. Burial will be private at Oakdale Cemetery in Wellfleet, MA.
