Helen Irene Orpen

Helen Irene (McCarthy) Orpen, of Hull, passed away on Tuesday, January 2, 2018 at the age of 77.

Beloved wife of the late John A. Orpen. Loving mother to John H. Orpen and his wife Kathleen of Hanson, Stephen J. Orpen and his wife Susan of Sutton, Patrice M. Pumphrey and her companion James Watts of Hull, and David W. Orpen and his wife Jill of Hull. Cherished grandmother of 10 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. Sister of Charles McCarthy, Margaret O’Callahan, Elaine Dykens, Marilyn Young, Velna Marsden, Michael McCarthy, and the late Robert McCarthy, Jean Bossi, and Patricia Hendrickson. 

Helen was born and raised in Charlestown where she came from a very large family. She moved to Hull in 1970 where she had lived for the last 48 years. Helen worked in sales for both Talbots and Gem-O-Rama for many years prior to her retirement. She loved her family and always enjoyed the quality time spent. Helen was a wonderful woman who will be truly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Visiting hours will be held at the Downing Cottage Funeral Chapel, 21 Pond Street Hingham, on Friday, January 5, 2018 from 4 to 8 p.m. A funeral mass will be held in St. Mary’s Parish in St. Ann’s Church, 208 Samoset Ave Hull, on Saturday, January 6, 2018 at 10 a.m. All relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend.

***Interment at Hull Village Cemetery in Hull was scheduled for Saturday, however weather conditions have postponed the interment. Information regarding the burial will be updated once rescheduled. The visiting hours and the funeral mass will continue as scheduled.
