Daniel Gregory Valentino, of Hingham, passed away on January 9th, 2018 at the age of 86. He died surrounded by family, after a 15 month battle with cancer and Lewy Body Dementia. 

Loving husband of 60 years to the late Margaret Arnold Valentino. He is survived by his loving daughter Terri Valentino Healey and her husband Lawrence B Healey, his loving daughter Lorri Valentino Costello and her husband Jack M Costello of Hingham. Beloved Papa to Marisa Beal Podolski and her husband Andrew Podolski, Sarah Marie Nickerson and her husband Ricka C. Nickerson, Alyce Maria Costello and Leanna Brielle Healey. Wonderful Papa/Great Grandfather to Cameron Valentino Podolski, Brynn Margaret Podolski, and Logan John Nickerson. Dan is also survived by his brother Albert Valentino of Cape Cod. Born December 14, 1931 to the late Thomas and Teresa Valentino.
Dan was very proud of his Italian heritage. Helped run Italian nights at Saint Paul’s Church. He loved a good party. 

Dan had a swimming pool at his house and the house and pool were always full of their granddaughters’ friends and all the kids called him Papa. The kids always were made to feel at home. There was always plenty of food, love and towels! 

Dan and his wife Margaret rarely missed any of their grandchildren’s activity. They went to rinks, fields, plays, basketball games, dance team, drama, art shows and all of their granddaughters activities. They were very devoted to their grandchildren. The grandchildren were their #1 love. 

Dan was a master craftsmen as a stone and brick mason. Countless homes throughout the south shore and other parts of the state benefited from his work; chimneys, fire places, tiled flooring , stone walls and walkways. His craft was meticulous and had the respect of those in the trade and those that patiently waited for his services .

He was very kind and made friends with people of all ages.


Dan came to Hingham Ma as an infant and lived his entire life on the same street. He was a lifelong member of St Paul’s Parish in Hingham where he was an usher. He was a proud veteran of the Korean War and served in the US Air Force.

 Dan was known by many for his daily bike riding and power walks. 

Dan also was also known for his generous volunteering of time coaching Pop Warner Football, Gals Basketball, and Coaching Hingham High Women’s basketball team to a State Championship.

Visiting hours will be held at the Downing Cottage Funeral Chapel, 21 Pond Street Hingham, on Sunday, January 14, 2018 from 2 to 5 p.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Funeral from the Downing Cottage Funeral Chapel on Monday Jan 15, 2018 at 9 A.M. followed by a Funeral Mass, at St. Paul's Church  147 North Street Hingham at 10 a.m. Interment will be held at St. Paul's Cemetery in Hingham.
